Ptax stands for Property Tax. Ptax.ca is an independent guide to property tax in Canada.
Independent, not official
This site is independent. It is not a government site and it is not an official site, and it has no government affiliation. It provides general information only. It is not tax advice or legal advice. Figures must be checked against the official municipal source before you rely on them.
How the guide is organized
The guide is organized by province, then metro region, then municipality. In the first phase, the provinces covered are Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia. Province, region and municipality pages are added in a later step; no tax figures, rates or rankings are invented for places that have not yet been published.
Methodology
Comparisons are within one province only. They are never cross-province, and they are never a national ranking. Within a chart, the same metric is compared: the municipal levy increase %, not the whole-bill change. Years with no verified official source are shown as no data. They are never filled with zero and never interpolated. Where behaviour differs between municipalities, the comparison stays centred on the same metric within the same province, rather than treating different measures as if they were the same.
Always check the official municipal source for the figure that applies to your property.
